Why there is now advertising on the Fantasy Football Scotland app...
You may have noticed some changes to the FFS app recently. Let us explain.
Hi, everyone!
We thought we should take some time to address some questions posed over the recent introduction of advertising to the Fantasy Football Scotland app.
We understand many of the concerns raised by some users. We would rather we didn’t have to run advertising on our game. Even from a design standpoint, we take great pride in the look and feel of the FFS app. There’s no denying adverts make playing the game a poorer experience.
However, the operation and development costs of the game are not insignificant. Tens of thousands. We have no financial backers. We are merely a group of fans who decided to create a Scottish fantasy football game because we wanted to play one. The whole enterprise has been funded out of our own pocket.
The adverts we are now running on the FFS app help cover some of the running costs and allow us to sustain the game as an enterprise going forward. Without any advertising revenue we simply wouldn’t be able to continue. We wouldn’t last beyond the end of the season.
GW19 marks the half-way point of the 2020/21 season. We held off on introducing adverts into the FFS app as we were wary of users feeling they were being spammed from the very first moment they signed up. We wanted to give ourselves a chance to prove what our app could do and what our game could be. We hope we have done this.
If some users no longer wish to play FFS because of the adverts, we completely understand. But on the whole we decided this was the only way to keep the game free-to-play for all. We didn’t want to put up any barriers to anyone playing.
A work-in-progress…
Having said that, we are actively exploring other methods of revenue to help keep the game going. A number of users have raised the suggestion of offering a paid, ad-free tier. The price point we have discussed is £2.99 a season. Would this be of any interest to you as a user? Please let us know on Twitter, Facebook or by email (welcome@fantasyfootballscotland.com).
The outlook is bright for FFS. We are making good progress on a number of big developments for 2021/22 (more on those later!) and the small amount of advertising revenue now coming in allows us to continue with those developments.
We appreciate and want to please the community that has sprung up around FFS this season. We always take your feedback, good or bad, into consideration. It plays a big part in the decisions we make. We want to keep dialogue open and transparent. We want you to play a part in making FFS the best experience it can be. Please keep telling us what you think.
Team FFS
P.S. Have a good Christmas, everyone!
